Yard Sale-ing In The Rain

It seemed we had just got to bed and asleep when the alarm went off at 6:00AM. I woke Wynn up and rolled back over going instantly back to sleep. I jolted awake with that 'Something isn't right' feeling and looked at my phone. It was after 7:00 and Morgan's Colorguard yard sale was supposed to start at 8:00!!! I rewoke Wynn, got Morgan up and looked outside. It was grey and wet. I was never so glad that Wynn helps her with her yard sale instead of me! They got there, set up, sold some things and didn't stick around for 2:00 to get there. They were wet and cold. Everybody packed up early I guess. I wouldn't know, I was smart enough not to be there.

After they got home, we finished cleaning and packing up Elder Gary's room. It wasn't so hard now we waited a couple of weeks. We got it totally packed up, dusted, vacuumed and the furniture rearranged. Then Wynn told me that one of our friends from our Smithfield ward came over to the yard sale.
He told him, "I just saw Gary."
Wynn, "You mean Andy?"
"No, Gary."
"Gary is in the MTC."
"I know. That's where I saw him. We took Logan down to the MTC Wednesday. Now that families can't go in they have the missionaries come out and get them. Gary was Logan's escort. He's looking really good. He is loving it."
Now how cool is that! Someone who can give me personal feedback on how my Elder Gary is doing!

Drew brought Dean, Wynn's dad, up with her this weekend. He really doesn't like living in the SLC valley at all. He feels there are too many people and too many houses. Elaine decided to come up at the last minute too, so we'll have the both of them until Drew goes back down Monday night. I hope Elaine does ok. She really is a home body these days, but we don't think she would do so good being away from Dean that long either. It'll be fun for them to get away for a while and the kids will keep them entertained I'm sure. This means they'll be here Monday when Elder Gary calls. That will be a surprise for him! I hope they do ok being away from home. We got them all situated in Elder Gary's room. Good thing we got done before they got here!

IN LIKE A LION, BABY!

It has been nice weather the last few days, the sun shining, the temperature warm, etc. And I am soooooo ready for spring to be here. I love Spring. But now it is supposed to start snowing tomorrow, and last for a few days. I say bring it on. I am so excited that March is coming in like a lion. That means it will go out like a lamb. Is that always the case....no. But usually. And I'm holding on to that. So--- let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. The March lamb is on it's way. WOOHOO!

Did I mention I'm ready for NEW!

I never told how the furnace/frozen water turned out. Tuesday morning we woke up to a warm house & the water was unfrozen before Morgan & Lexie went to school (after I turned up the heat for the day). It has actually been a nice, warm 3 days, warm being a relative term. It was actually in the 40's today, everything was melting, beautiful blue sky. And the furnace has continued working......until now.

I went to the rec center tonight to get on the treadmill instead of going this morning because Morgan wanted to go with me. (We saw my brother there lifting weights.) She hadn't gone before but is in good shape from color guard & now winter guard, so she did over 3 miles in 1 hour. I was proud of her. I did more than that, but I've been working on it for a while. But that is all beside the point. When we headed home it had started to rain in Smithfield. By the time we got to Hyde Park, it was 1/2 rain 1/2 snow. When we got to North Logan, it was snow, that slushy slimy slick kind. Yuck. If it gets cold tonight, it will be slick in the morning. Because of the weather, the satellite had lost the signal & needed brushed off. Because of this, the football game I had recording for Wynn & Gary had a big chunk that hadn't gotten recorded. They're easy going, they will be OK with it. Lexie & Tanner were here while I was gone, but even with a broom Lexie doesn't come anywhere close to reaching the satellite to brush it off. So I got to trudge through the snow to do it. I came inside & realized it was cold so I turned the heat up. After a while I realized it wasn't getting any warmer. That's when I found out the furnace is acting up AGAIN! I haven't been able to get it to click on yet, but Wynn is home now, that usually helps, even though I used to be the only one that could get it working. At least it isn't both furnaces at the same time like happened last winter. At least we do have one room we can go to & be toasty. I don't need a cold house & frozen water again. I'm ready for a brand new house that noone else has ever lived in. New appliances that actually work, new fixtures, new bathrooms, new walls, new windows, new doors, new, new, new..........

and the printer started giving a 'cartridge error' Sunday that for some reason only Drew can fix, & she doesn't live here anymore! She fixed it Tuesday & now it is doing it again. We do what she did (& did the same thing before she ever did it) & nothing. Frustration to no end. And yet, I'm still in a decent mood. Go figure.

Should have stayed in bed

Today was the first day back to school/work after Christmas break. I started the day going to work out at 5:30am, it was 3* outside! I went anyway. I got home & the girls left for school & I got me & Tanner ready to leave. It was all the way up to 7* & started snowing as we left the house.

The furnace in the kindergarten section of the school has been having fits all year, & they can't seem to get it fixed. It was freezing there & even though we have all learned to wear our jackets & sweaters when we go up there for reading group, we weren't prepared for it being so very cold. It didn't even seem to phase the kids. It snowed the whole time I was at work & had about 4 inches of snow on the car when I went home.

We have 2 furnaces for the house, but the one for the main section hasn't seemed to be working very well the last couple of days. So when I got home, I got to deal with a kitchen sink that the cold water has been frozen now for 2 days & a house that was as cold as the kindergarten rooms. I fiddled with the furnace since Wynn & Gary had apparently gone stir crazy at home & had been gone doing I'm not sure what all day after their doctors appointment & wasn't aware it had quit working. When Wynn got home he messed with the furnace for a while & finally got it working right. Maybe now the sink will thaw out since the house is finally a decent temperature. I guess it doesn't help that I have had an annoying cough for a week now that won't go away.

But I will get up again tomorrow morning in a nice warm house & go to the rec center in the freezing cold to work out in a nice warm building & do it all over again. Hopefully minus the not working furnaces this time!

Sometimes you get what you hope for

Our niece, Kiri, came home with us after Jenny's wedding. They had so much fun being together, Morgan, Lexie & Kiri...& of course they included Tanner in everything they did. They are so good about that. And we love watching them & listening to all the laughing that goes on. We had to take her back today. We, Morgan, Lexie & myself, met her mom, Trudy, in Layton because that is half way for both of us. I just wanted to be back before dark. It was supposed to have a 70% chance of snow today, I wanted to be home before that too. It had just started raining as we were leaving home. It quit once we were out of the valley so we made good time. We met her mom & sent them on their way & headed home ourselves. We were there for a whole 5 minutes. On the way home it was still doing great, except it started to rain once we reached Sardine Canyon, just started snowing at the top. As we came down the other side it turned to rain again, and was rain the rest of the way home. We were home for about 15 minutes when it started to snow, hard & started getting dark. Trudy wound up having to be in Salt Lake longer than planned & was afraid she wasn't going to beat the storm home from there, but they did.

So did we get what we hoped for? Or was it because we had a prayer in our heart?

Oh, the weather outside is frightful....

Working for the school, I get a Christmas break with my kids. Mine started yesterday, which gives me (including weekends) 18 days off!! My kids are at school right now, therefore getting only 16 days off. Tanner & I went to a program for Lexie's spanish class yesterday morning at 8:30, before his school, (will have that posted later), and it was all of -4* outside on the car thermometer!!! Yes, you read that right, 4* below 0! & my car always matches the radio & reader boards in town. I am not a cold weather person. I came home & curled up in a blanket & watched sappy movies.

Today I have visiting teaching at 10:30. So I got ready & took Tanner to school around 8:40 even though I'm not working. All morning it looked to be a nice morning even though they were predicting heavy snows. It had started snowing around Provo, but not here yet. Until 2 minutes before we were to leave that is!! Then it started an instant blizzard. It is only about 1 1/2 miles to the school from my house, 3 miles round trip. IT TOOK ME HALF AN HOUR!!!! And I am still going visiting teaching. I am not a snow on the roads person either! Thank goodness it is all just right here in the neighborhood.

Thank goodness Andy & Leza got home safely (at 12:16am) from their 3 day trip to Las Vegas. Yes, they were there for the famous 3 1/2 inches of snow stuck on the ground in Vegas. But Drew is in Ephriam/Manti for her roommates (from Snow) wedding today. She went down last night & is supposed to be coming home tonight. She has 4 brand new tires & lots of relatives & friends houses along the way home to stop if it is still nasty. Now I know how my mom felt when Wynn & I would take a trip in the wild Wyoming winters. Sorry mom.

It's a corduroys & sweater kind of day

Doesn't everybody know it is a 'put on your corduroys and warm sweater and curl up with hot chocolate and a good book or movie' kind of day?

Yesterday Gary, my 18 year old, had to go to Gardiner,Montana for work. That means driving a truck, pulling a loaded trailer. It was ok part of the way, then he hit the snow storm. He got to West Yellowstone where he went through last time, but this time they wouldn't let him because he was pulling a trailer. He had to turn around & go through Bozeman & Livingston to get there, adding another 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way to the trip. When he got there, he had to unload so he could head back. It got nasty on the return trip & he found himself sliding sideways down the road, WITH 4 wheel drive, three times. Fun as it is, but with a trailer? He said he had never seen so many accidents on one stretch of road in his life, and he grew up in Wyoming! The interstate by Evanston is notorious for winter accidents. He drove out of the storm, made it home safely & didn't even ding the truck or trailer & never went off the road. That's why he's their driver. Not good on mom's nerves however. But he did keep in contact with me letting me know where he was, how he was doing & what the weather was doing. I think it was as much for his piece of mind as mine.

Morgan, my 14 year old, is performing in Pocatello at the Holt Arena at ISU. I just carpooled her & 4 other of the colorguard girls up to the high school to catch the bus. It has been blowing hard all night & as I dropped them off, it started snowing. By the time I got home, it was bigger flakes. It is now snowing sideways. If it keeps up, we will have a blizzard. Now I have another child on the freeway in a snow storm today. I can't wait until she calls me to let me know they are back & I can go get them, tonight, at 7:00, or whenever. It's going to be a long wait if this weather keeps up.

Lexie, my 11 year old, is going to perform with the Vistauns (high school drill team) for the half time at football on Oct 23rd. They are practicing today at the high school. I get to go watch at 1:30. Maybe that will help keep my mind off traveling children.

Like I said, don't I know it's a 'put on your corduroys and warm sweater and curl up with hot chocolate and a good book or movie' kind of day? Probably not since I will be driving in the weather to get there. And I do have on the corduroys and warm sweater anyway.
